Schedule of Events for May 20

In addition to the bike convoys that have been going all week, on May 20th Cycle Alaska will be at the Twin Lakes parking lot doing basic bike repair. They will also have vans and bike trailers available to transport people and bikes into downtown. They’ll store the bikes during the day at their new downtown store (bright red building by the Alaska Department of Labor).

There will be refreshments, possibly prizes, and a chance to socialize for bikers going both directions that morning.

After work on the 20th, there will a free 5:30 showing at the Gold Town Nickelodeon of Take a Seat, a movie about a man who bicycled from Prudhoe Bay to the tip of South America.

Schedule of Events for May 16-20

All week long, bikers are encouraged to gather at the folowing locations to share part of their commutes:

1. Rotary Park – 6:30 a.m.

2. UAS Parking Lot – 7:00 a.m.

3. Mendenhall Mall Parking Lot (in front of Super Bear) – 7:15

4. A&P Parking Lot – 7:15

5. Douglas Library – 7:15

6. Douglas Breeze Inn – 7:30

Veteran bike commuters are encouraged to choose a site and help new bike commuters learn the ropes. Organization for these groups is minimal, though, so no one should feel obliged to wait around for others. The important thing is to get out and ride (and to get to work on time).
